Ruffle Your Feathers

Ruffles are very in vogue at the moment and can look great if you want to make a dramatic style  statement. Here are some do's and dont's if you feel you would like to explore this fashion further.

DO.....                                                     

Watch Your Proportions.

If you are small busted, wearing ruffles across the bust will accentuate that area giving you more volume. This will also work for the very straight body type. Wherever you place ruffles, this area will be accentuated.

Cascading Ruffles.

A softer, flowing ruffle is a lot more gentle on the body frame. This can look more pleasing on the figure and less obvious, giving you a city chic appearance.

Balance The body.

Ruffles are a great way to balance particular body types, for example if you are a pear shape, balance the hips by wearing ruffle details on the top half of your body. This will draw the eye up and broaden the chest and shoulder area.

DON"T.......

Petite Frame.

If you are quite short, do not overwhelm your frame with to many ruffles. Try something less obvious like 2 layer ruffles on the sleeve or cascading ruffles along the button area.

Big Busted.

This can also go horribly wrong. As mentioned previously, anywhere you place ruffles, this area will be emphasized, so if you are big busted, it is not a good idea to place ruffles across or above the bust line. You will just look even more top heavy.

This also applies if you have a larger derriere. Don't place ruffles across a large bottom unless you want to look bootylicious.

Work Appropriate.

Always keep in mind your position at work. If you are in a creative field, ruffles will work for you as they can be quite a fashion statement. But in an office environment it may not be ideal. Ruffles can also be viewed as soft and feminine and you do not want your position being undermined. Colleagues react to the way you dress so never give reason for inappropriate behavior.

Colour Update And This Seasons Trends

What's hot this season and what colours to buy for a sizzling effect.

• Whites! – Bright whites are the background for everything this Spring / Summer. From crispy cotton to patent leather, flat opaque or shimmery and shiny. Its all about looking fresh.  

• Big Bold Prints – Get bold with prints. Often in 60's patterns, you will see black-on-white or deep-dark-blue-on-white, or even brown-on-white with a little yellow thrown in.

• The Return of Flower Power – Floral is still here bolder and brighter. Generating from the ‘30s, get busy with splashy floral prints for an over the top effect.

• Green gets Browner – Earthy greens this Spring keeps us in touch with the passion for our environment, botanical greens are now making way for a browner, dustier green.

• Hot Ethnic Accents – Immerse yourself in India, China, Indonesia, South America and you will set the tone for the hot colours this season. The hot accent colors are bright yellows, turquoises, and magentas.

• Berry Berry Pink – You can almost taste the cool raspberry color of summery Italian ices. Pink is hot, but it is not a soft pink, rather a bluer pink to keep you looking cool.

A girlfriend of mine Ties The Knot in a couple of months and she was on an endless search for comfortable shoes to make this day blissful not blisterful. So when she told me about Leapin Lizards, I made a bee-line for the International Plaza on that very day....keep in mind I do have a fairly ferocious shoe habit.
