4. Dietitian in Singapore
Dietetics is the integration of the art and science to the application of food and nutrition to health. A dietitian, like a nutritionist, is a person who advises people on dietary matters relating to health, well-being, weight loss and optimal nutrition. Additionally, a dietitian will have received training in the use of nutritional therapy in a clinical setting, usually a hospital.
Dietitians can also be nutritionists. Nutritionists would require additional postgraduate training to become dietitians.
It takes 4 -5 years to qualify as a dietitian with 6-12 months of this time being spent on clinical internships. There are currently no courses for the training of dietitians in Singapore. All practising dietitians in Singapore have trained overseas at a University accredited to the Dietetic Association of that country. Singapore has no statutory regulations governing dietitians however, a dieitian who is a member of the Singapore Nutrition and Dietetic Association (SNDA) has had their qualifications fully verified.
