Finding Your Ultimate Jeans

The one essential item that everyone should have in their wardrobe is a great pair of jeans, or ideally two; one long enough to wear with high heels, the other to go with flat shoes.

Jeans can take a person practically anywhere except a funeral, a wedding or a black-tie affair. Jeans can be dressed up or down. They never go out of fashion, and can make us look great when we wear a pair that suits our body shape.

They can be paired with a white shirt for a casual, clean look. They can be paired with a sparkly top and sandals for a night out. Or worn with astructured jacket for a smart, up-to-the-minute look.

Baggy, tapered, high waist jeans suit no one so don’t go there! Jeans with a flare-leg or bootcut, with a not too- high rise are the most universally flattering. Unless you are rail thin with no hips, don’t go for very low rise.

The most flattering rise is typically one inch below the belly button. If you are very thin and have no tummy or love handles, you can go an inch or so lower. Make sure the jeans are fitted around your butt. Shop for jeans with a centre seam short enough to give your butt separation and definition – a unibutt is not very desirable!

Typically people do not find a pair of jeans that suit them in the first shop they walk in to. It takes time and patience but it is so worth it.
