Fall 08 Season Update

The Fall Fashions have arrived in the shops and after perusing the Shows from Paris, London and New York we have picked our favorites of the season, just for you!

5 STYLES WE LOVE

Structured Designs - Imagine designer meets architect! This look is very modern, very classic and a must if you want to update your wardrobe. Structured jackets, crisp shirts with pointed lapel detail and angular neck lines are ruling the runway! This look is great for most figure types as it creates structure is ideal for the creative career woman.

Long & Wide - Silhouettes this season are all about length and volume. A long pant falling straight from the waist and covering the shoe will look stunning on the tall and willowy. Wide leg jeans are also making a comeback! This look is not ideal for the less than long and lean.

Super Sized Jewelry - With a choice of cuffs, necklaces and earrings, jewelry is back and its bolder than ever. Layering necklaces and donning different size cuffs will update your look in an instant.

Ballets Flats & Booties - Ballet flats are still around much to our feet's delight. You will also see a lot of ankle booties - a trend only recommended for the most elegant of ankles, so if you can carry it off; indulge.

The heel on stilettos is getting thinner, higher and sexier. Not terribly practical but they do look elegant and make our legs look fabulous.

If there is a particular design you like but the heel looks more like a weapon than something you would actually wear, then, pop into Leaping Lizards (International Plaza, Tanjong Pagar) for a more wearable copy in the perfect size.

Oversized Handbags - A trend that has been with us for many seasons, the oversized handbag looks set to stay. Great if you are a yummy mummy or if you love to carry "everything" with you. Metallics and exotic prints are huge this season.

WHAT TO AVOID

Coloured & Patterned tights - Do I need to comment!!

Plaid & Tartan - Designers have gone mad over plaid this season and if you are a creative soul you may enjoy this look. Keep in mind this fashion trend may be out by next season so its not necessarily an investment. If you still love plaid, we recommend a fitted plaid jacket worn with jeans or dress pants for a sleek country look.

Fur - Aside from the moral issues, it's just not practical in Singapore.

COLOUR UPDATE

Think deep jeweled tones with lots of black. Be sure to choose your best tint, tone or shade of these colours.

A Powerful Pout

The bold lip is back and we are seeing deep reds, rich plums and velvety pinks. Get your lips in shape for this fun and daring look.

Preventing Bleed Lines!

Lips are very prone to wrinkles and sun damage so looking after your lips will keep them soft and plump. Exfoliate lips to remove dead skin cells and use a lip cream at night to prevent wrinkles.

Before applying your lipstick, make sure you blend your foundation over the lips to create a nude effect. Applying a lip liner will help to prevent your lipstick bleeding and will hold the colour longer. Feather on the lip liner starting from the middle and working your way out to the corners then fill in the whole lip. Apply lipstick on top.

Longer Lasting!

Wearing a stay fast lipstick can dry the lips causing the lipstick to congeal or crack. A lipstick with a built in moisturizer will help keep the lips looking younger longer. Try not to rub your lips together too much throughout the day to keep your colour for longer. No matter how great your lipstick is, touch up will be required - looking good does take a little work.

Cracking UP!

Avoid bold lipstick if you have dry flaky lips as this will highlight the problem. Be sure to smudge on a good lip balm about one hour before lipstick application to condition your lips and keep your lipstick looking smooth and polished.

Young and Glossy!

If you feel your lips are too thin wear avoid wearing bold lipstick. Instead try lighter shades and smooth on lots of gloss to plump lips up and keep them young looking.

Know Your Shades!

Being aware of your skin tone is essential in choosing the right shade of lipstick colour. A warm skin tone should steer towards the orange reds, warm purples and brownish pinks. Look for colours with a gold undertone as this will blend with your skin tone.

If you have a cool skin tone, wearing lipstick with a silver or blue base is best. Always try the lipstick on the back of your hand to see if it blends with your skin.
