Mind Your Business!
When many women embark on a journey to live in Singapore, the majority do so following their spouses career. They leave behind their friends, family and often their jobs.
Other women move to Singapore to progress in their own careers. No matter the reason behind the move, many end up going into business for themselves and become powerful and creative female moguls.
Finding work in Singapore can sometimes prove difficult, so women everywhere have taken their destiny into their own hands and revived a passion they find not only spiritually rewarding but financially rewarding as well.
Did you know that 41% of businesses in the USA are owned by women. And worldwide, the percentage of small business owners grows rapidly every year.
Whether the reason behind you embarking on an entrepreneurial role was due to being unable to find a job, fed up with your current job or needing to find a stimulating hobby, the rewards are phenomenal.
Yes, building a successful business is hard and keeping it successful is demanding, but if you do it in the right way you will see your efforts returned many fold. Here are a few helpful hints to help your business become successful:
FIND YOUR NICHE: Do something different! Listen to what people around you have to say with regards to what is lacking or very poorly provided for in Singapore. Find a gap in the market and fill it. If you love jewelry, look for designs that are new and innovative and specialize in that field. If you want to consult, focus on a particular area and become the go- to- expert in that field. Once you find a niche market that has been neglected, you will find that business naturally flows. (Especially with Singapore being such a small place).
WEBSITE MARKETING: The first thing someone will do when they hear of your company is Google you. Be sure to have a website or you may not be seen as reputable. Even if your company is only at fledgling stage, have a small and simple website. As long as that next potential client can visualize what you do and the product/ service you provide they are more likely to buy. Visual stimulation is key, and with the world wide web at peoples fingertips, they are more likely to want to see you online before they spend their hard earned dollars with you.
Optimizing your web site is also important. Make sure all of your links are working and ask your designer to add key words, if you do not know how to do it yourself.
BE YOUR OWN PRODUCT: No matter what you sell, consult, arrange or cater for, be that product. If you are what you sell people will trust in you. They will want to look as good as you, be as smart as you, be as successful as you. Show them through visual stimulation what they can aspire to be.
LEARNING 101: You may have done the necessary training and product knowledge, but this doesn't mean you should stop. Owning your own business means constant updates on the market you have entered. Expand your expertise and learn new and innovative lessons so that you can expand when you see necessary.
CARE FOR YOUR CLIENT: Never neglect your client no matter how long it has been since they last visited. Keep them updated on what's happening in your industry and give them information that you think they may find useful. If you have a database, never abuse it! People do not want to be bombarded with emails so keep then to a minimum, and make them useful and easy to read.
If you are still raring to unlease your passion and follow your dreams down that new career path, then check out PrimeTime which is a professional womens group here in Singapore. PrimeTime has many different subgroups such as the small business group, the marketing group and much more. Beauty - The Shelf Life Of Your Cosmetics
Do you ever wonder how long you your Make-Up products are good for? Or do you tend to hang on to your cosmetics for years and wonder why you have red or scratchy eyes after an evening out?
Its time for a cosmetic bag spring or fall clean!
Foundation: Liquid - 10 Months to 1 year. Cream or Compact - 1 Year - 18 Months
Hot Tip: Keep foundation in a cool area out of direct sunlight. Try not to use your fingers, use a sponge or cotton tip instead.
Face Powder: 18 Months
Hot Tip: If you are using a powder brush or puff, regularly wash in baby shampoo rinsed with water to maintain cleanliness.
Eye Shadow: Powder Eye Shadow - 2 Years. Cream Eye Shadow - 18 Months
Hot Tip: If you do not use your eye shadow regularly, wipe over top layer with a tissue before next use. This will remove any surface bacteria.
Mascara: 3 Months. Always a hot topic of conversation!!
Hot Tip: If you do not use your mascara often, look out for the smaller bottle variety, this will save you money.
Eye liner: Pencil - 2 Years. Liquid - 3-6 Months.
Hot Tip: Keep eye liner in the fridge (Not terribly practical, I know!). Eye liner is made up of wax and in Singapore...wax melts causing the pencil tip to become very soft. An alternative may be to try a powder liner which will last far longer and give you a more natural look!
Lipstick and Gloss: 18 months - 2 years.
Hot Tip: If you feel your lipstick has become sticky or gluggy, cut half a centimeter from the top to reveal fresher product.
It is very important to maintain the hygiene levels in your cosmetic bag. Your skin and eyes are very prone to become contaminated by bacteria from poorly maintained makeup brushes to mould infected powders. Living in Singapore, this is even more important as humidity is a breeding ground for bacteria. Using a small label machine should help in knowing when to replace your products. Upon buying, use the guidelines above and label the product with the correct use by date.
ADONIA Mineral Make-Up can be purchased from our Orchard Studio. For those who have already tried our ADONIA Make-Up and love it, we can deliver your next order to your premises for your convenience. Email

For the lovers of fine jewelry, Mouawad has opened it's store in Raffles Hotel, Singapore. Mouawad's pieces are timeless and elegant, perfect for that special splurge for an extraordinary occasion.
Steeped in rich history, Mouawad was founded in 1860 by David Mouawad a watch maker and gold smith from Lebanon, and has remained in the family till this day. Mouawad is known for its celebrity designer Heidi Klum and her signature clover designs which was inspired through her travels to Italy where she was intrigued by a clover patterned marble inlay in Milan.
Jean Nasir who has opened the store in Singapore and in Malaysia is a relative of the Mouawad family and is passionate about his pieces as well as his clients.
I would recommend a visit to this stunning boutique to view the unique jewelry pieces and indulge in the exclusiveness of this label and all it has to offer. Be sure to view the Rose Gold Collection and the Clover design jewels.
