The Great Singapore Sale 2008 - How To Shop In The Sales

If you have ventured into any of the shopping districts in the last couple of weeks, you will have witnessed the frenzy of the The Great Singapore Sale. As much as we love a bargain, sometimes the whole buzz of a mass spending spree can be completely overwhelming and off putting.

Remember a sale purchase is not a bargain if you will never wear that garment (Even if it was reduced by 70%!). To avoid rash splurges, here are some hot tips to get you through the sales and come out on top.

**Now is a good time to venture into the stores as the lines have diminished. Most of the excitement has died down as we are over a month into The Great Singapore Sale.

**Choose your times wisely. The earlier you can get out the better. Singapore seems to thrive in the later afternoon and the crowds can be overwhelming. Typically shops in Singapore open around 11am.

**Know what you want before you start. Make a list of garments and accessories and stick to it.

**Wear your sensible walking shoes; nothing is worse than aching feet an hour into your shopping spree.

**Wear clothing that are easy to take off or slip garments over. Sometimes the changing rooms can be less than spacious.

What To Buy During The Sales

CAMI'S: This is a great way to upgrade your wardrobe and add a spark of colour. Look out for your cami's in stores like Cotton On, Zara, Forever 21 and Esprit. Cami's are fab for layering and building a complimentary colour into your outfit.

JEANS: A good fitting Jean is an essential in everyone's wardrobe but for quality denim you can pay top price. Look out for your favorite brand in the sales and be sure to try on a few pairs. Jeans on sale at Levis, Marks & Spencers, Bread & Butter and Mango.

TROUSERS: Trousers are a smart way of jazzing up your outfit for the office or a dinner. Know what style of trousers flatter your figure and elongate the leg. Try Naf Naf, Warehouse, G2000,

JEWELLERY: Another great way to spice up your outfit. Look out for a new necklace, earrings or bracelets. With an abundance of Jewelry shops to visit we can recommend Takashimaya, Isetan, Accessorize, Diva and anywhere in Far East Plaza.

HANDBAG: Its time to invest in a new Handbag, and this is a great time to get great prices on designer brands. Update your look with a funky bag in a colour that will flatter your everyday outfits ie; brown, beige, white, burnt orange, navy. If you are not afraid of colour, buy a bag in your favorite shade. Stay away from the big black bag as the only thing it will do for your outfit is age it!! Great bags on sale at Tangs, Isetan, Takashimaya, Veldt, Fashion Frontier.

SHOES: Shoes in Singapore can be extremely cheap but beware as this is usually an indication of quality and how long they will last. Now is the time to invest in a couple of good solid shoes and keep your feet happy. A pair of heels, flip flops and covered flats are ideal. Visit Guess, Aldo, Takashimaya, Pretty Fit, Arch Angels, Schu, Metro Paragon and Everbest; your feet will thank you for it.

Nicola Porter - Nutritionist and Dietician Consultant

We are very excited to welcome our newest consultant at Nutri-Style, Nicola Porter.

Nicola  is a qualified Dietician from the Leeds Metropolitan University in the UK and has many years of experience helping people reach their nutrition and weight goals. She is a registered dietician with the Health Professions Council UK and a member of the Singapore Nutrition and Dietetics Association. Nicola started out her careeer as a dietician with Derriford Hospital, Plymouth in the UK and then moved on to Royal Surrey Hospital in the UK as a senior dietician. She has experience in individual consultations and group coaching especially in the area of weight loss coaching.

Nicola will be writing a Nutrition packed newsletter every month (starting this month) with lots of helpful diet tips, restaurant reviews and healthy food choices here in Singapore.

As of Tuesday 1st July 2008, we will no longer be at our Delfi Orchard Office. You will now find us at 30 Bideford Rd, Orchard, #18-02 Thong Sia Building, Singapore 229922.

With our growing team and the need for more consulting rooms, this bright new office will be a welcome change, although, we will miss our little office in The Defi Orchard and the friends we have made around us.

We encourage you to drop by on a regular basis to visit with us for either social or consulting reasons. We will still be centrally located in the Orchard area, just across the road from The Paragon, and parking is easy at Cairnhill Plaza.

For those with upcoming appointments, you will be contacted prior to confirm our location and available parking areas.
