How
to stay current without becoming a Fashion
Victim
Many
of my clients ask me how they can stay current
without looking inappropriate or spending a fortune.
Here are 6 ways you can stay up to date without
spending a fortune:
1. Keep
the majority of your wardrobe in classic styles. By this I mean items such as:
a)
A tailored white shirt, (or off-white is white
is not your best colour)
b)
Black/chocolate brown tailored pants and skirt
in style that suits you
c)
Classic straight cut dark navy jeans with a
mid rise.
Add
up to date accessories to these classics to keep
them current.
2. Keep
an eye on what's fashionable but let it pass
you by for the most part unless you find an item
that suits your shape and lifestyle. For example
many of the voluminous tops in fashion at the
moment do nothing for the majority of figures.
A new lipstick in a shade that suits your colouring
will do a lot more to lift your look and your
mood!
3. Keep
your bag and shoes current - this is the easiest
and fastest way of updating your look. For example
add a wedge shoe to any of your outfits and you
will look current and appropriate whatever your
age.
4. Keep
your hair and makeup current. Put some serious consideration into your hair and makeup every six months and
don't get yourself stuck in a style rut. Enlist
the help of a trusted friend or a professional
such as an image consultant/hairstylist to help
you refine your look.

5. Subscribe
to a couple of newsletters that keep you up to
date on fashion and style. A couple of e-newsletters I recommend are:
a)
Mine of course!
b)
www.sheilasfashionsense.com
c)
www. tramp2tramp.com
6. Attend
fashion and style update talks given by image
professionals such as image consultants, beauty
therapists and hair stylists. Nutri-Style has an Image Insights Club that holds image events every 4-6 weeks
which keep you right up to date.

The
Great Singapore Sale - What to invest in?
The
Great Singapore Sale is finally upon up and there
are some great bargains to be had if you know
what you are looking for! Unfortunately there
is a lot of rubbish out there too, so keep these
few simple ideas in mind before you go and splurge
with your hard earned cash.
At
sale time, the clothes which form the essentials
of a chic wardrobe are usually long gone – but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look. Sales are more rewarding if you’re after novelty or luxury items – like a beaded evening bag or for picking up another colour of something you’ve already got. Department stores such as Marks & Spencers and Takashimaya have sales year-round, but the major markdowns can
be found at the end of the season. Specialty boutiques follow their own sale schedules, so get on the mailing lists
or befriend a salesperson of your favourite stores
to receive advance notice of sales.
And
before you head out the door with your wallets,
remember the golden rules of shopping:
1. Always
try on clothes and sit down in it.
2. Never
buy anything that doesn't flatter you or isn't
comfortable - no matter how fashionable or trendy
it currently is.
3. Don't
purchase something just because it looks good
on someone else.
4. If
you can't stop thinking about an item, go back
and purchase it immediately.
5. Always
take note of the store's return policy.
6. Really
amazing one-of-a-kind items will disappear; if
you fall in love with one, buy it straight away.
7. In
a shopping emergency, go for shapes or labels
you know you can count on.
8. If
you're unsure about a big-ticket item, see if
you can put it on hold while you have a think
about it.
9. If
you have to talk yourself into a purchase in
the dressing room, pass on it.
10. If
there's nothing in your closet to wear with it,
skip it.
Good
Luck!
